Jason R. Schmidt
Jason Schmidt is the proprietor of Grazing Plains LLC, located southeast of Newton, Kan. After earning an A.A. degree at Hesston (Kan.) College, Jason served with MCC’s SALT (Serve and Learn Together) program in South Africa for a year, where he shadowed an Anglican priest who was helping rural South Africans start small businesses, many of them organic vegetable co-ops, in an effort to become self-sustaining. Jason then completed his undergraduate degree at Bethel College as one of the last global peace and justice majors, with an emphasis in international development. He spent two years with Mennonite Voluntary Service in La Jara and Alamosa, Colo., where he was assigned to work with community gardens and more organic vegetable co-ops. Jason earned a master’s degree in plant and environmental science from Clemson University.
